Worlds Seeding Committee
The IRF is looking for committee members that can help establish and apply seeding rules to create a fair tournament for all participants. This committee will be responsible for crafting and executing many important pieces that shape the World Championship.
Initial committee deliverables
Create an individual team seeding process and then apply that process to seed teams. Final rosters are due by August 15.
Create a points-based system to seed squads using Worlds individual tournament results. For example, finishing X in the individual tournament is worth Y points. The sum of a squad’s points is used to rank them.
Address any potential necessary tiebreaker scenarios or edge cases. For example, how are ties broken if two squads of 4 split matches?
What we’re looking for
Knowledge - People who are tapped into the community with a deep knowledge of players, teams, and skill levels of men’s, women’s and mixed. Do you pay attention to all of the results, obsessively watch film, know the top players’ middle names?
Objectivity - Are you able to remove any personal bias and take an objective look at results to make the best decisions? Do you have experience creating other objective ranking systems?
Diversity - We’d like a mix of members from different countries and continental regions. Ideally, members will have a good reference point for all of the countries within their region as well as the international community as a whole. We want to make sure we have people who are knowledgeable about men’s, women’s, and mixed.
Timeline
Committee members will be chosen by April 15. The committee will be expected to complete the seeding criteria and guidelines by June. Once World Championship rosters are complete, they will determine the individual team seeding by the end of August.
If interested, apply here and please share all information that will let us know why you’d be a great fit.
